1. First and foremost, research is required to gain a basic understanding of how reptile's scales move and flex, through the bends and around the arcs.
2. Basic sketches of the face and of a cross-section are also crucial.
3. A look into attainable materials for the greatest protection-cost ratio is beneficial as well.
4. The size of the scales to be designed should be determined beforehand. Through research, it is possible to find out the proper size to maximize mobility and flexibility.
5. To ensure good protection, it is also imperative to decide on the shape of each unit. The aim must be kept in mind that even when the pad is bent, it must provide maximum protection.
6. Elongated hexagonal shapes with four sides of one centimeter in length, and cm, and two sides of two centimeters in length, as seen in the Week 5 Progress update, is currently regarded as the best option.
